Dr Wong Chee Wai is an experienced eye specialist of over 16 years of experience, with a specialty in vitreoretinal diseases, cataract and high myopia. During his practice as a consultant with SingHeath Group, he successfully started the high myopia clinic at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and the vitreoretinal service at Sengkang General Hospital, before moving to private practice.
Besides his clinical work, Dr Wong also served as SNEC’s deputy director of undergraduate education and was the programme director of the Duke-NUS Medical School’s ophthalmology programme. He is also an established researcher with more than 70 published articles and several research grants in myopia and ocular drug delivery. He regularly presents at international meetings and is a peer reviewer for major eye journals including Ophthalmology and Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science.
For his outstanding work, Dr Wong has received many prizes and awards, including the SingHealth Publish! Award, SingHealth Healthcare Heroes Award, Young Eye Ambassador Award (Eye and Vision) and SingHealth Quality Service Award. He is also a committee member of the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology (SSO).
Dr Wong obtained his Bachelor and Masters degrees from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and completed both his specialist training in ophthalmology and vitreoretinal subspecialty fellowship training for both medical and surgical retina at SNEC. He also completed his Masters in Clinical Investigation at NUS Medicine and a PhD in Ocular Drug Delivery at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. He is a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
Dr Wong believes that for an effective healthcare treatment, it is important for patients to have a clear understanding of their diagnosis, treatment plan and expected treatment outcomes. He endeavours to spend quality time with his patients and align their expectations to the treatment plan so as to achieve the best possible outcomes.
