How then, is ZEISS SMILE® pro different from ReLEx SMILE

1. The new Visumax 800 is a faster laser and takes roughly half the time to complete the laser procedure compared to the Visumax 500. This is attributed to the higher frequency of the 800 laser. A shorter laser treatment time means that there is significantly less risk of complications like incomplete cuts from suction loss, which can cause the surgery to be aborted. It also means that the ZEISS SMILE^® pro surgery is significantly quicker and more comfortable for patients.
2. The new laser now has cyclotorsion control, which means that for significant astigmatism that requires precise alignment during laser treatment, the surgeon is now able to have proper control. As astigmatism is very common and incomplete treatment of it can affect the results of the surgery, the new cyclotorsion control means that ZEISS SMILE^® pro procedure produces results that are more predictable and accurate, especially for those who have high astigmatism.
3. The Visumax 800 has a new operating microscope that is of a higher grade, with improvement in brightness and definition, allowing the surgeries to be performed more efficiently.
4. It is smaller in footprint and is more versatile in its placement within the laser operating theatre, which translates to more space and safety for patients during the procedure.
5. The Visumax 800 also has several other new features compared to the older laser that helps to facilitate and simplify steps during the immediate pre- and post- operative moments, such as during docking of the eye and release of the laser. These streamlining of the laser procedure helps to create an overall safer, more efficient and comfortable experience for both the patients and the surgeon.
